Looking for the best Christmas events in Ireland to get you and your family in the festive spirit? We’ve made a list (and checked it twice) of the top events taking place across the country for you to enjoy. From Christmas craft workshops to Santa visits and festive entertainment to train rides, there’s something to suit every age and every member of the family.
The National Print Museum are hosting two Printlab Christmas Card Workshops on December 14th at 11.30am for children aged 4 to 7 and at 2pm for children aged 8 to 12. During the workshop, children will have the chance to experiment with letterpress printing and learn how to combine different techniques to create their own Christmas cards. Your kids will love this hands-on Christmas experience.
Tickets cost €15 and can be bought through the National Print Museum’s website.
Taking place on Sat 14th, Sun 15th, Sat 21st and Sun 22nd of December, Santa’s Grotto at Epic is not to be missed. At the Grotto children can make a pouch of reindeer treats with the elves, sing Christmas songs with Mrs Claus, play in the snow cabin and, of course, meet Santa and receive a gift. Families can also visit the award-winning museum which will feature a special Christmas exhibit and finish off the trip with a delicious hot chocolate and treat from the Bakehouse.
Admission ranges from €8.50 to €22.00 and places can be booked online.
Brought to you by Hidden Dublin Tours, the Christmas Panto Bus is a Christmas event like no other. Grab the family and take a seat on the upper deck of the custom-built Christmas Bus and head off on an interactive adventure with the elves and Santa. Passengers on the bus will have to help the elves to find the missing magical letters and save Christmas for poor Santa who is feeling unwell. Christmas depends on audience participation!
The event runs from Dec 7th to 24th and is likely to sell out. Book tickets online for €15.
Christmas has arrived at Castlecomer Discovery Park in Kilkenny. Head to the park’s North Pole Station and climb aboard upon the Santa Express train that will transport you to the magical Christmas Village. At the village there’s arts and crafts, hot chocolate, play areas and bouncing nets to enjoy. Guests can then visit Mrs Clause inside her cosy igloo to hear some stories before they meet Santa and receive a special gift.

Tickets are €25 for a child and €15 for an adult and can be bought through the website. Pre-booking is advised as this event is likely to sell out.
This delicious Christmas event takes place every Saturday and Sunday up until Sunday December 23rd. Both children and adults are welcomed to the workshop to sample some tasty chocolate, sip on hot chocolates and mould and decorate their own chocolate bar. The workshop is a hands-on experience and promises to be lots of fun.
Pre-booking through the Chocolate Garden’s website is essential and tickets cost €13.50 for children and €8 for adults.
Running daily until December 23rd, Santa’s Enchanted Castle in Enniscorthy is an immersive, interactive Christmas experience for all the family to enjoy. A visit to the Castle begins with a tour of the magical chambers with Smelfy the elf. Each chamber contains a surprise and is uniquely themed and decorated after sensations such as The Greatest Showman and The Lion King. Guests will meet familiar faces around the castle, sing some songs and play some games before a private family visit to Santa.

Donegal’s Lapland experience has been running since 1999 and is one of the most highly anticipated Christmas events of the year. Each year more surprises are added to the event. Guests will meet the elves, hear stories, visit the toy factory and select a gift, see Lapland village where they can post their letter to Santa, meet Mrs Claus and the reindeers, see Santa come down the chimney and enjoy some treats plus lots more.
Tickets are €14.50 and can be bought online.
Looking for a family Christmas event that’s different from the rest? The Jungle is the place for you. There are activities for all ages including arts and crafts, a petting farm, adventure zones, bungee trampoline, climbing wall, rodeo reindeer and lots more. Children can visit Santa and the elves too and receive a present.
Tickets can be booked online and cost £18.50 for a child and £10 for an adult.
The sell-out Slime Workshops at King John’s Castle in Limerick are back. Taking place on Dec 14th and 21st, each 1-hour workshop will let children get up close and personal with glittery slime while also conducting some Christmassy experiments such as acid base reactions to launch Rudolph rockets and ornament eruptions - sounds exciting! While the children are busy in the lab, King John’s Castle are offering €10 entrance to the castle for accompanying adults and 20% discount in the gift shop. Book your child’s place online for €21.
There are a host of free and ticketed Christmas Events taking place as part of Winterval Christmas Festival at Waterford. Take your pick from afternoon tea with Santa, ice skating, Santa train, Christmas markets and lots more. Christmas has taken over Killarney in County Kerry. All month there will be a range of fun Christmas activities taking place for you and your family to enjoy. Think food and craft fairs, sleigh rides, ice rink, Christmas parades and lots more. There’s lots of festive fun to be had at Winter Wonderland in Loughwell Farm Galway. Guests will meet Mrs Claus and the elves as they prepare for Christmas, have a snow fight with the Christmas Princess, stir the reindeer’s magic food, visit Santa and choose their own toy from the elves’ workshop. There will also be face painting, balloon animals and lots more for the kids (and adults) to enjoy.

If you’re looking for some family friendly entertainment this Christmas season, look no further - Arigna Mining Experience has it all. Throughout the month of December there’ll be magic shows from magicians Joe Daly and Oisin Foley as well as performances from The Custard Pie Puppets. Santa will also be available for visits in his underground grotto and his elves will running around getting into mischief no doubt.

Running daily from 10am to 6.30pm until December 23rd, Westport House in Mayo has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the whole family to enjoy. Guests will meet Mrs Claus as she tells magical stories by the fireplace, meet Santa and receive a gift, sip on festive drinks and munch on treats, visit Tinsel Town where letters can be written and posted to Santa and pay a visit to the elves in the toy shop. This magical experience will be unforgettable.
